Cover lines , Masthead & plan of my music magazine

.
I have researched into different mastheads I may want to use for my music magazine. I used Photoshop to find some fonts that I might want to choose for my masthead and I look all of them quite a lot so I do feel they reflect the fierce and sensuality  I am trying to achieve within  my magazine. The font I am particular interested in is font 7 which I find both clear and easily recognisable for the target demographic yet a very unique type face which captures the aesthetic I am going for, which will allow the audience to immediately recognise that the magazine is about going to the early centuries of society and revealing the classical style of the music industry.

Here is my plan that I'm going to follow to construct my music magazine. I think this will help me to manage my time on thinking about the design because I have a fixed idea and a regular structure that I will follow in relation to develop my abilities of magazine maker and planner. I noted every single part of my music magazine with different content so my audience will know what my content of the music magazine will be and however will be more easier for them to distinct if it worth reading this or not.
Here, I created a draft of my layout for my front cover of my music magazine. I have considered a range of different conventions I could include such as a puff, pug, anchorage text and a Skyline but in my opinion the front page would then be too strong and I am hopefully going for a more simplistic style so the audiences main focus is on the cover star, which I will not be able to achieve If I use all the different conventions that could be used.

I have chosen to add a skyline to my draft version of my front cover as I feel that it would be effective in portraying the aesthetic of the magazine as a skyline stands out against the rest of the text due to where it is placed on the page, the audience will more likely notice the skyline before any of the text and so ensuring the skyline some how reflects the genre of music I have chosen, the target demographic will directly understand whether they are attracted to this magazine or not and whether they may want to buy it or not.

As I mentioned earlier I decided that I would reduce the amount of conventions I would use so that the audiences immediate attention is drawn to the artist and the main cover line, meaning that if they are fans of the artist they may be intrigued to what the magazine discusses or if the target audience member isn't a fan they will be enticed into buying the magazine through the other cover lines used as well as the sky line that would offer something free that is exclusively available within the magazine so that the target demographic would feel they are receiving more contents for their money or receiving a bargain and so therefore would be more likely to but the magazine.

Additionally, I formed the layout of the magazine so that the artist would be the center of the page and again reinforce the immediate attention grabbing the cover star would do, whilst also deciding that the house style for the magazine would be very demanding colours such as blues and reds to connote to the passion and vibrancy of the magazine while still representing the aesthetic of the magazine as being edgy yet professional

→The cover lines that I'm going to use are very supportive and constructive as a contribution to my music magazine as an increase of the popularity of it. However they link to uses and gratification theory in order to maintain the succession of producing satisfaction, relaxation, knowledge and information towards the audience. The second most important part of a magazine is the cover lines. It's what people look at and a well thought out, clever and interesting subject line which help people decide if they should open your email or not. The cover line can be regarded as one of the most important parts of the promotional magazine
Cover lines are ones of the most important part of a music magazine because they can manipulate us in contemplation to promote and popularise the music magazine and also they can make us (the audience) decide whether to read it or not .

1) MASTHEAD
The masthead is seen as the main feature of the front cover allowing the audience to see who the magazine is by and give them a rough idea of the genre. Magazine designers will ensure the masthead is visible and stands out beside every other magazine. Also the masthead usually stays the same font and colour so people can identify the magazine easily and the style will remain in their minds. The masthead is also usually the largest piece of text on the page and is placed at the top of the magazine, usually in the middle but can be further to the left or right.

Here are some example of music magazine mastheads

2) STRAPLINE
The strap line is based at the top of the magazine and is placed just above the masthead. It usually highlights the importance of a story within the magazine and starts with 'EXCLUSIVE' in a different colour to the rest of the strap line.
Some strap line may say something about the magazine itself or promote the free be some magazines come with. Not all magazines include these and if they do they are not always an issue. However they do attract the audiences attention and makes them want to read more.

3) THE MAIN COVERLINES.
The main cover line is smaller than the masthead ,but larger than all the other cover line. It is the same colour as the other coverlines, but it is usually based on the main image. After the masthead, the main cover line is where the audiences eyes are drawn to .
Cover lines are pieces of text on the cover which give a short explanation on the stories within a magazine. They can also be known as puffs. They are the same colour as the main cover line just smaller and do not stand out as much. This does help the main cover line stand out. Cover lines are usually spread out across the magazine and there is quite a few of them sometimes they include a small photo.

MY COVER LINES
Rihanna - the new face of R&B?

I personally like this cover line as it initially just state of  the most iconic R&B artist of the 21th century then followed by a rhetorical question

Who's the best R&B artist? You decide!
I also like this cover line as it is also a question. However this is an example that the question  must be answered by the audience so therefore making my magazine seem more professional.

Exclusive interview : chase and status
This cover line will be followed y a quote from Chase and Status, which I think will be an effective technique. The use of the word 'exclusive' suggests my magazine is professional.

Katty Kurt new album highlights
Personally this is very good and current cover line that I could use for my magazine.Katty Kurt is my star persona so I decided to make an article about her career in music so her fans will start knowing her better and get into her music albums.Katty Kurt has a new album which makes it current and it was received a lot of positive press therefore making it front cover material.

Kendrick Lamar- sex,drugs & R&B
I feel as though this particular cover line relates very much to the change R&B has suffered over the recent years. I believe nowadays R&B as a genre is related to drugs and sex
