Questionnaire
I have researched into my target audience for my music magazine through social media. I chose a range of friends off the social media site Instagram to receive a variety of opinions on the Indie genre, which allowed me to identify my target demographic.
Media Questionnaire Audience
The preferred audience for the magazine will be 15-25 as the magazine will be very intellectual to suit the age of the audience because they would be doing GCSEs and A-Levels so simple numbed down features will not engage them as a reader. I’d address them as fellow students but use language that would treat them as adults who take responsibility and not as little kids who need to be told what to do. I feel this important as the target audience are older students, some who are legally adults, and they wouldn’t read the magazine if the magazine insulted their intelligence and treated them as little kids who don’t know better. Concerning the features of the text, I think that large amounts of text with small amounts of images will engage the reader as the reader will be old enough to read large texts but the small images will hopefully prevent the reader from losing interest in the text. I think that my audience will be informed by my final product because the aim of the "school" magazine is to inform the students and teachers of the school about the current events that have happened over the term. My product does not have major "call to action" as in my questionnaire results in became apparent that my target audience does not want to purchase the magazine. However, they will have to adopt a small habit which is the fact that when the magazine is released they will have to go out of their way to get the magazine. I think it will be very effective to get people to adopt the habit of getting the magazine when it is released because the my target will probably want to read the informative text and to do that they will have to get up and get the magazine by themselves. It will be effective because the habit is not a large one and will not affect the in anyway apart from the fact that they will just have to walk a very small distance to get the magazine. My finished product will be distributed to all the tutor groups in the school because then it will be easier for the magazine to reach all the intended targets and the attention of the student can easily be grabbed my sending a school wide notice that informs the students and teachers that the magazine is practically waiting for them. Context When presenting the questionnaire to my fellow students, I represented the designer if you will for a school magazine and that the magazine would greatly help me understand ways to make my finished product better. I picked at least two students from year and above so that I could gain the general opinion of the vast majority of the students and that the age difference between each student would help broaden my view of what the majority of the students want in a magazine. I challenged the stereotype of young people not caring about educational matters and I must see the stereotype was shattered as many of the students I questioned seemed to care about what was going on their school. The way I could gain students interest and promote the magazine to the by again sending notices out into the school and in my sixth form there is a TV mounted on the wall in the main corridor intersection which could easily promote my magazine. Unless, the school has a social media presence, then the magazine cannot be promoted on the online on social sites. We could the success of the magazine seeing how many of the magazines are actually taken by students overall to see how what percentage of students are taking and reading the magazine. In addition, if the magazine is online then we could how many has been downloaded from the school website. Content The content was clearly aimed at the needs and wants for a school magazine, including questions such as " What would you pay for a school magazine", these types of questions allowed the student/teacher to tell me what they wanted. If I had to back and do the questionnaire again I would most certainly add more questions asking how often they read magazines so i could then ask "What time frame would frame you like the magazine to be released?". Using this information I could then determine what topics should be in the magazine such as holiday events or weekly events depending on the answers I would receive from the questionnaire.
